Why Tattoo Placement Matters | Atlanta Tattoo Shop
A lot of time clients will come in and immediately tell us where they want the tattoo before telling us what the tattoo actually is. They just know they want a tattoo “here”. Right now in 2019 fingers, faces and hands are the more popular and trendy places to get tattooed. Sometimes tattoos don’t work in those locations and sometimes they do. As your Atlanta Tattoo Artist, lets discuss this, so the next time you go to get tattooed you have fully thought about all facets.
Work. While tattoos are becoming more accepted in the workplace and no, tattoos don’t make you any less valuable as an employee - but unless you run your own company you do have to listen to the companies rules. Unless you are heavily tattooed already some tattooers will not tattoo your face or hands because they know what having a tattoo in these locations can mean once the trend fades and face tattoos are no longer the cool place to get tattooed. Are you really willing to lose your job over a tattoo? You really must consider future work vendors when thinking about placement of your new tattoo. Some of the more common placements that are easier to hide tattoos are upper arms, legs, torso, and back.
Pain. It is true, some locations hurt more than others but this shouldn’t be the reason you don’t get tattooed in that place if the tattoo works best there. How do you gauge this? Keep in mind that the more fat or muscle tissue under your tattoo, the less pain it will be. Tattooing over tendons like the ribs or feet will be more painful.
Size. If you are trying to join 7 different elements like names, banner, dates, doves, trees, so on and so forth (you get the idea) then you must expect the size of the tattoo will be rather large and so must the placing. For a tattoo like this placement is everything. On the flip side of this you wouldn’t want to put a teeny tiny tattoo in the middle of your arm. A simple and small arrow tattoo works better towards where areas meet like the wrist. Listening to your Atlanta tattoo artist will make sure you get the best result in your requested tattoo design.
Flow. While flow of the tattoo isn’t your first thought it is the artists’ first thought. A tattoo placed on the hip isn’t going to look same as a tattoo placed on the back. Work with your artist and discuss different placement ideas to get the best flow for your tattoo. A great tattoo design can go from awesome to just o.k with improper placement.
Placement is so important when thinking about the life of your tattoo. Body’s can change with time and you have to remember that means your tattoo will also. Changes like weight loss or gain and pregnancy can distort that once geometric design. Tattoos applied with the idea that they will be forever and thinking about placement is just another way to make sure your forever design is the best design. Your Atlanta tattoo artist won’t steer you wrong.
All tattoos are done by tattoo artists in our Atlanta Tattoo Shop. You can find them under our Artist section.
